Statements of Support

I'd like you to join me and many other elected officials in supporting two challengers for the Ross Valley Sanitary District:  Thomas Gaffney, Municipal Finance Consultant and Rick Holland, Leadership Development Consultant.
- Kathy Hartzell, Mayor of Larkspur

The numbers pertaining to the Consent Decree for this year are... three and a half miles of pipes inspected... [12.5% below the MINIMUM required!]
- Vivian Housen, Interim District Manager of Ross Valley Sanitary District at May 6, 2008 Board Meeting

Agencies have simply built that [fines] into the cost of doing business. They have decided it's easier to pay the violations rather than go fix their infrastructure.
- Jared Huffman, Assemblyman (as reported in the Marin Independent Journal, March 10, 2008)

The Marin Builders Association PAC unanimously endorsed Thomas Gaffney and Rick Holland in the Ross Valley Sanitary District race... Holland has a history of public service both locally and internationally.
- Marin Builders Association PAC (as reported in the Ross Valley Reporter, May 1-7, 2008)

The SRSD Board has been instrumental and very supportive of the regionalization efforts but feels that this is not the appropriate time to move forward. We are concerned about the financial viability of the Ross Valley Sanitary District (RVSD) and noted that they have not addressed their financial responsibilities to fund both their debt service to the Central Marin Sanitation Agency (CMSA) and their capital improvement program.
- Al Boro, Mayor of San Rafael and Board Chairman of San Rafael Sanitation District

Challengers Tom Gaffney and Rick Holland disagree [with incumbents], saying the current board has hurt its relationship with other sanitary districts and placed the district on shaky financial ground.
- Ross Valley rivals split on fiscal issues, Marin Independent Journal, Sunday, May 11, 2008

We would like to see board members who reflect different strengths, each complementing the other, who are committed to listening to each other and the community, and who strive to find common ground, rather than blaming each other and emphasizing differences ... We find Holland’s international background in ranching, teaching, administration, and environmental work refreshing and think it may provide a basis for creative thinking and a break with past battles. We endorse ... Holland ...
