It has been 25 years since an effective sewage treatment facility

 was built in Central Marin

I’ve got some good news and some bad news—first the bad news:

·         A week after the ’08 elections the Ross Valley Sanitary District advised property owners it was doubling fees; not only did it double fees, but it took out a $10 million loan to cover expenses—primarily due to more than 25 years of deferred maintenance.

·         Due to mismanagement, in the past two years the District has spent $3 million on unnecessary new headquarters outside of District boundaries, $1 million each year on legal fees—largely defending itself from lawsuits resulting from its mismanagement, over $100 thousand each year in propaganda, etc.

·         The District now faces a $15 million lawsuit for failing to clean up the hazardous waste site at its former treatment plant in Larkspur, resulting in the failure to complete the sale of this property—which would have provided around $10 million to the District.

·         Because of its continued financial mismanagement, within the next couple of years the District will again have to seek a rate increase.

  Now the good news:

·         The District will no longer exist by 2012! Supporters of good government in Marin are in the process of merging the three remaining sewage collection agencies in Central Marin and the one treatment plant into one new agency—the Central Marin Sanitation District. We are now in the process of consolidating the Southern Marin sewage agencies—with the first mergers due to take place in 2011.

This is no joke—join Rick Holland and thousands of his supporters in saving millions of dollars and providing good government to our communities!
